The text art created on the IBM PC, which use text characters beyond the ASCII standard are also called ASCII, even though it is technically incorrect. ASCII art is text art that was created on computers who use this ASCII standard. Tools for the creation of ANSI and ASCII text art are available for free download here.ĪSCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange and is a text format standard for computers. You can also find many good examples of the various types of text art in the art galleries on this website. It is for people who want to learn more about the origin and use of this unique art form and artists who want to learn how to create this kind of art to carry forward the legacy of decades, if not centuries of other text artists before them. The purpose of this ASCII academy is completely educational. ![]() ![]() I created the ASCII Art Academy to bring articles, tutorials and other text art related resources together into one place. You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.Where does text art come from? How did it develop and where was it used in the past and the present? What are the different styles that are used by text artists on modern computers? Find answers to those questions and more in the following articles. That is, slashes represent the four fingers with the exception of the thumb. Specifications: This is quite similar to the first version I mentioned at the start of this post. The smaller angle/opening is in my opinion, the correct form of the Vulcan salute as shown by Spock in this image. In my version the forward slash (index finger) has a much smaller angle/opening with respect to the comma (thumb) compared to using a forward slash with an underscore. I used the comma for the thumb, and not an underscore like the above versions, since the thumb is usually not angled that much from the index finger in a usual Vulcan salute. Specifications: This version uses backward and forward slashes to represent the pinky and the index finger, respectively, while the capital letter ‘V’ represents the ring and middle finger. The following are my two versions with specifications describing them and how they are made: My version 1 This next one has one version similar to the above art, while the other version uses a “les than” symbol ‘<‘ to introduce the thumb (source: )Īs I’ve mentioned, I’m quite displeased with the above Vulcan salute ASCII art and so I created my own versions. This one involves an underscore followed by 2 forward and backward slashes (source: ) _\\// Some of the Vulcan salute ASCII arts I’ve found are the following: they don’t really look very much like the real salute (of course this is obviously a subjective thing). I mention appeal because the Vulcan salute ASCII arts I’ve seen so far are not so convincing, i.e. ![]() Now I’ve been looking around the Internet for a Vulcan salute ASCII art that really appeals to me. As you all know, a lot of people, creative in art or not so much, create and use ASCII art ranging from the complex (machines, sceneries, human faces) to the trivial ones (faces, smileys: □ (^)_(^) d(o)_(o)b ).

I’d be like, “Wow, we’re gonna have a whole weekend at Rob’s house and we’re gonna spend the night there and we’re gonna watch scary movies and play Xbox! And he’s got a four-track, and we’re gonna record songs, and he’s got a friend who can take the tape and transfer that from Winamp or something to a CD!” I couldn’t sleep for like two nights ahead of time. We started going to shows, and I was just instantly like “Oh, this is what I want to do.” I got grounded so often for dumb teenager stuff – bad grades or weed or whatever – that when I was able to practice with the band, it was such an important thing. It was 2003, so we’re talking At The Drive-In, The Misfits, AFI, Dead Kennedys – like the ’90s hardcore-y stuff. A friend from school played drums, one of my stop-motion movie friends got a bass, and we started a band and all simultaneously got into the aggressive music that teenagers were into at the time. ![]() įrom there, I was just learning power chords and figuring out tablature on : Jimi Hendrix’s version of the National Anthem “Learn to Fly” by the Foo Fighters stuff like that. So I asked for either a camcorder or the Squier Strat Pack from Fender, and I believe my parents saw that the Strat was cheaper than a camcorder, so I got that instead. It was my birthday or Christmas, and I had gotten really into making stop-motion animation videos with my friend. I would just sort of pick it up every now and then, and eventually learned how to play “A Horse With No Name” by America.īut the big push happened when I was in seventh grade. He showed me a couple of things, and I was like, “This is kind of fun,” you know? Something to do, like when you can’t skateboard. Sheldon played guitar, and he gave my dad his old one because my dad wanted to play Bob Dylan songs. My parents had just got divorced and my dad had a friend named Sheldon who was staying on the couch. Read through for an in-depth exploration of Deafheaven’s origins and what influences Kerry’s guitar sound, plus watch this exclusive video of Kerry demonstrating his signature GUITAR RIG 6 presets at the Gibson Showroom in Hollywood, California. We sat down with Deafheaven guitarist and founding member Kerry McCoy to talk about his early influences and the band’s synergistic approach to songwriting. One need look no further than the band’s latest release – the monumentally atmospheric and relentlessly dynamic Infinite Granite – to witness the colossal and untamed beauty that’s possible in a post-genre world. Over the last decade, the band has churned out five albums of bewilderingly cathartic music, a crushingly heavy amalgam of beauty and ferocity that largely defies categorization. ![]() Within months of playing their first show, Deafheaven had landed a record deal with legendary indie Deathwish, Inc., who quickly released their debut studio album to critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Decibel, and NPR. ![]() But the group’s potent blend of crushingly heavy riffs and ethereal melodies (dubbed “blackgaze” for its melding of black metal and shoegaze sounds) was still largely unknown in America, and the subsequent response was both immediate and profound. Deafheaven first broke on the San Francisco scene in 2010 with little more than an untitled demo tape recorded on borrowed equipment and an acoustic guitar. Tied also featured plenty of guests like Common and John Legend, as well as newer artists from Shinoda's Machine Shop imprint. ![]() The set was exec-produced by Jay-Z, who had previously collaborated with Shinoda and Linkin Park on 2004's Collision Course. In November 2005, Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda debuted as a solo artist with Rising Tied, an ambitious collection credited to his alter ego, Fort Minor, that blended hip-hop with electronics and rock elements. When a computer wants to communicate with another computer in the network, it packages the request into an IP datagram or IP packet. This produces a one-to-one mapping between IPv6 multicast group IDs and Ethernet multicast addresses. For example, when a computer joins a network it has a unique IP address so that it can communicate with other hosts in the network. So there is really only 32 bits of usable multicast address space (oh no.we will be limited to 4,294,967,296 TV channels !!). Bits 16-95 inclusive must be zero and bits 96-127 (the least significant 32 bits) are the multicast group ID. The next byte contains the flags and the scope identifier (defining the locality of the address). An IPv6 multicast address has a most significant byte of 0xff. The amount of IPv6 address which gets "lost" this way isn't as much as first appears.
